What you need to know about the role
As a PCM Technician at British Steel you will be responsible for the safe execution of planned and uprising work tasks within the Teesside site infrastructure. You will lead and develop any appropriate work teams using all available tools and techniques and carry out and monitor work execution.
The position exists to control Plant Condition Monitoring/Structural Inspection/NDT/MPI activities for our Teesside Beam Mill and the Teesside site, ensuring optimum outputs are achieved in the most economic and safe manner whilst underpinning the integrity and infrastructure of the department.
Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Assist and manage isolation/immobilisation of equipment and issue necessary permits.
Carry out risk assessments, observations and safety conversations within the assigned area.
Ensure the functionality and availability of the assigned area of plant is up to the required standard and responds to plant failures in a positive manner including out of hours attendance as reasonably required.
Communicate with and report to area Maintenance Engineers.
Involved with the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment as directed.
Ensures first line performance management is undertaken for craft and engineering contract personnel.
Provides fault finding and technical expertise for assigned area both during and outside normal hours as demanded by the plant.
Ensures equipment is in a safe reliable condition by the use of appropriate inspection methods.
Maintains information systems (SAP) and drawings to ensure that all details of equipment condition and maintenance work are up to date and accurate. Ensures /undertakes job feedback into SAP PM, history, job duration etc
Capable of assessing maintenance work methods and improving work efficiency.
Writes and formulates reports based on work tasks findings. Writes and assists with reports that are turned into task Work Notifications.
What we need to know about you
To be considered for this position you need to be an experienced PCM and NDT professional with a detailed knowledge of your appropriate discipline and a working knowledge of other disciplines. You are required to be proficient in PC skills and have the capability to be a practitioner in the specific elements of SAP PM. The ability to directly supervise personnel to deliver safe, efficient and timely work execution is essential.
You should have experience of working in heavy industrial engineering, have people management/supervisory skills, and be a highly motivated self-starter with effective interpersonal and communication skills. This position requires a good knowledge of mechanical equipment, lifting equipment, work at height and problem solving for plant and associated equipment could be demonstrated.
Qualifications required are NDT, Ultrasonic, MPI, LPI biased with particular reference to thickness and crack detection. An engineering appreciation would be considered an advantage.
