Here at wilko our Buying team are looking for a Buyer to join them in our Decorating & DIY category, if you're an expert when it comes to buying the right tools or choosing the perfect wallpaper for the season we would love to hear from you and are happy to consider those looking for perm or fixed term opportunities
At wilko we exist to free up hard working families to be the best they can be and we’ve recently launched a bold and ambitious new business strategy to see us face into and thrive within the challenging and continually changing retail industry. As a family-run business we have a unique culture and a refreshingly different way of working.
As a Buyer in our Decorating & DIY categories you'll be getting involved in key projects across the range, ensuring we buy a first-class selection of products to our customers. We source from suppliers across the world, buying the volumes required to meet demand, so you will need to have your passport ready for this role. You will already have the experience and knowledge of what quality looks like and how to expertly negotiate with a variety of sources. We want your knowledge of dec/DIY to help develop the ranges and offer new and exciting products that deliver growth to our customers, but as with any buyer role every penny counts and you will be responsible for managing a budget and buying in the best possible way to deliver margin targets.
Here are just some of the things you’ll be involved in
Responsibility for the implementation and ongoing management of the category range strategy, creating product briefs through use of insight and analytics driving fact-based decision making and constantly looking for new opportunities to support business product transformation goals.
Managing supplier relationships and delivery of agreed KPI’s for sales and buying intake, gross margin including identification of growth opportunities and execution of business plans.
Delivery of the range assortment and range reviews together with the sales budget.
Negotiating supplier terms and roll back of terms into margin.
Ensuring completion of daily, weekly, monthly rebates reducing costs associated and improving cash flow for the business.
Identifying and managing, end to end regional sourcing activities within areas of responsibility, delivering supply chain efficiencies, supplier optimisation and global sourcing.
Supporting the delivery of major cross functional department change projects, liaising with key stakeholders including senior management across the business whilst effectively supporting your team to ensure that these are delivered on time, on cost and to the required standard.
Providing direction to teams helping them to be better every day to create a working environment where high performance can be delivered and rewarded.
Managing the range review critical path for all product and product launches.
What we need from you
We need someone who has worked in a retail buying role previously, is an expert negotiator and ideally has experience of the Decorating/DIY category. Experience of sourcing from the international market is essential as well as understanding the complexity of supply chain and with that working well under pressure will be a bonus too. You will work closely with NPD and the wider commercial team and therefore stakeholder management and engagement is required as well as the ability to build positive long term working relationships with our suppliers.
At wilko our team members are at the heart of everything we do and we want to reward them for their hard work, not only through our competitive salaries but also through the benefits that we offer. With this role you’ll get:
Be Better Everyday Rewards scheme
33 days holiday entitlement (inc Bank Holidays) rising to 38 days after 5 years service
Team member and family discount of 20% in store and online
Wilko family holiday homes
Wilko WOW flexible benefits – such as great discounts on shopping, days out, holidays, health and fitness and money-saving schemes to cut the costs of childcare
We want you to be yourself here at wilko. We welcome applications from everyone and actively seek to build talented diverse teams at our Support Centre, Retail Stores and Distribution Centres. If you’re invited to an interview with us we can make reasonable adjustments to our interview process according to your needs.
