The SAW Pipe Mills at Liberty Steel Hartlepool are the UK’s largest steel pipe mills, manufacturing heavy duty steel pipe for the energy, power and construction industries in the UK and worldwide. New recruits will be joining a company that has a world class manufacturing capability, and a skilled workforce with a long history and global recognition.

Due to increased activity following the recent award of major projects, we are now looking to recruit production team members for a fixed term period of approximately 6 months, although there is scope for extension should further orders be secured.

These positions are paid a basic annual salary of £20,908 rising to £22,870 upon successful completion of training and probationary period. Hours of work will depend upon which mill area you are assigned to but could be any of the following patterns: Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm; 10 shifts - 6am-2pm/2pm-10pm, or 15 shifts - 6am-2pm/2pm-10pm/10pm-6am. However, the ability to work additional hours and/or a different shift pattern is essential.

Within the role, you will ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with works procedures to provide a safe working environment with responsibility for:

Health and safety performance adhering to the works procedures and involvement in various safety improvement activities.
Acquiring sufficient competence and flexibility to work in any of the manufacturing areas as and when required
Operation of equipment within your work area to defined procedures to achieve agreed objectives.
Involvement in line operations, which can involve operation of cranes and mobile plant and equipment.
Recording and checking of information on the company’s IT systems.
Involvement in continuous improvement activity.
Liaising with other work areas and functions to ensure efficient material flow
Participation in audits / checks, ensuring compliance with work procedures and set quality standards


Ideally, you will have previous experience of working in heavy manufacturing and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of working safely and adherence to stringent quality standards.

Specifically, we are looking for previous experience in some or all of the following areas:

Overhead crane driving
Fork lift truck driving
Mag welding
Visual Inspection in a production environment
Buffing/grinding using abrasive wheels
Complex machine operation in a production environment
Heavy plant experience

Full training will be given for all the duties you will be asked to perform, however, pre-existing basic IT skills are essential.
