Southwark College, part of Newcastle College Group, (a leading national provider of education and training), is looking for dedicated, creative, enthusiastic and appropriately qualified people to take on the role of teacher/course tutor in our new Supported Learning area which is part of our Inclusive Learning Department.

In this extremely rewarding role, you will work with managers, colleagues and partners to deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment for students on our new courses for students with special educational needs and disabilities. You will also have responsibility for the academic and pastoral support for a group of learners in the area as their course tutor. The learners that you will be working with may have mild, moderate or complex learning difficulties or disabilities and will be from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Learners may have autism, communication, sensory, physical or other learning needs.

The post requires candidates with a strong and successful background in teaching and working with students with learning needs as well as a commitment to providing best quality learning and support opportunities that enable students to progress, achieve and move successfully into adulthood. As these are course tutoring roles they are substantial roles but we are happy to consider candidates who wish to work 4 or 5 days a week in the hourly paid role. As the hourly paid role includes both teaching and course tutor roles, some additional hours will be paid at a reduced rate to enable the postholder to successfully carry out the tutoring role alongside the teaching role.

The candidate must be qualified to honours degree level (Level 6) or qualified to the industry-recognised standard in a relevant field, hold a post-16 teaching qualification and English and maths qualifications at level 2, or be willing to achieve these within an agreed timeframe. It is desirable that the candidate has experience of effective programme leadership in FE, HE and / or Apprenticeships and has a proven track record of successful teaching and assessment practice.

An ability to self-manage workload, meet deadlines alongside strong oral and written communication skills and good IT skills are also essential. The hours of work will be flexible and may include evening and weekends according to demand.
