About the vacancy:

Due to the increased Health and Safety regulations and activity surrounding COVID-19, Newport City Homes are looking for an experienced and hands on Health and Safety professional to join our team on an interim basis. You will have excellent working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations with strong and effective communication skills to ensure managers across the Association understand and follow H&S requirements.

As a self-starter, you will collaborate with managers to ensure that Risk Assessments are completed and adhered do, carry out routine spot checks and work with managers to mitigate risks. In addition to this, you will provide support to the Health and Safety Manager to implement the strategic and operational health and safety management framework and develop and implement a robust and proactive framework for monitoring maintenance activities demonstrating compliance and ensuring an efficient customer focused service.

Newport City Homes are advocates for continuous improvement and are looking for a Health and Safety Professional with demonstrative experience of challenging processes and enhancing efficiency to aid in our delivery of our Health and Safety strategy.

A full UK driving licence and use of personal vehicle is essential for this role.

Specifically the Health and Safety Officer will:

Investigate and liaise with management on incidents, accidents, dangerous occurrences and damage including identifying any subsequent mitigating measures ensuring any lessons are learnt and shared.
Develop, implement and review operational procedures, registers and related survey schedules in accordance with current legislation and best practice, to ensure that fully informed decisions are taken into relation to all operational activities.
Support the development and review of the general task related risk assessments and any actions identified or those part of the health surveillance programme in relation to all operational activities.
Implement and monitor specific assessments in relation to high-risk hazards such as asbestos and exposure to noise; vibration and dust.
Develop and deliver toolbox talks and provide up to date advice on all policies and procedures including asbestos, noise, vibration and dust.
Carrying out regular inspections and safety audits of internal operational staff and external contractors to ensure compliance with the relevant method statements and safe working practices.
Constantly seek to improve processes, services and overall customer satisfaction.
To work at all times in a safe and appropriate manner to meet the duties and responsibilities within the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the association.
