On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a Network Security Engineer for a 6 month contract based in Manchester. Purpose of the Role: In conjunction with the firm's chosen IT security partner, you'll operate the firm's IT network security infrastructure. You'll be responsible for managing and developing that infrastructure so as to provide continued, effective defence against cyber threats. You'll evaluate threats to the environment and adjust to an ever-changing threat landscape. You'll also apply practical security knowledge to develop new detective measures and practices to protect the firm. As a Network Security Engineer you will be responsible for: Ensures the correct application of operational procedures; Ensures that documentation of the supported components is available and in an appropriate format for those providing support; Identifies operational problems and is accountable for their resolution in accordance with agreed standards and procedures; Provides reports and proposals for improvement; Provides security consultancy/advice as needed to the IT department and to the business; Manages processes relating to the installation, maintenance and operation of security infrastructure including Firewalls, proxies and IPS; Responsible for the implementation of agreed changes and maintenance routines; Regularly reviewing infrastructure to ensure best practices are being followed and where necessary to escalate problems/issues (process or compliance) as necessary; Enforcing role based access control. Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolves problems in systems and services; Responsible for the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures; Ensures that incidents and requests are handled according to agreed procedures; Investigates identified security breaches in accordance with established procedures and responsible for applying the appropriate remediation; Conducts forensic investigations for HR, legal, or incident response related activities. Evaluates new security technologies and products and performs engineer-level work and analysis to determine if solutions should be pursued; Provides security consultancy/advice as needed to operational and project teams Validates that proposed solutions for new systems or for upgrades to existing systems are acceptable from a security standpoint. What we require from the candidate: You'll need to be an experience Network & Security Professional with experience switching and routing technologies. You'll need to have an in-depth understanding of cyber security issues and an understanding of ITIL change management processes. Naturally, you'll need experience in security incident investigation and remediation. Additionally, you'll need the below technical skills; Essential Technical Skills Strong networking knowledge - TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS; Strong knowledge of vulnerability scanning and penetration testing techniques; A good knowledge and hands on experience of current Windows server operating environments, Active Directory and Group Policy; Exposure to and working knowledge of as many of the following - Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, Checkpoint Firewall, Blue Coat ProxySG, QOS, routing protocols; Knowledge of network security devices and associated protocols; Exposure to SIEM technologies; Strong packet analysis skills; Strong understanding of secure network design principles; Good knowledge of secure web gateway (Proxy) technologies. Desirable Technical Skills Knowledge of load balancing technologies; SSL VPN remote working.
