As a Hostel Support Worker you will work as part of the housing support team providing support to vulnerable individuals and families who are homeless and living in temporary accommodation. You will be responsible for working closely with clients and agencies to provide appropriate welfare and support to facilitate independent living.
It is essential to liaise closely with the housing needs team to place clients in short stay accommodation, matching applicants’ needs sensitively to the accommodation available. Thereafter, you will need to encourage residents to maintain their short stay accommodation licence and support in developing their life skills including advice on basic safety, child care issues and helping residents seek specialist support when needed.
The working pattern will be 37 hours per week to cover Monday to Friday.
The successful candidates will have experience of working with vulnerable groups as well as knowledge of welfare benefits and statutory and voluntary services available for vulnerable adults. Effective communication skills (verbal and written) are essential as is an excellent attitude and relationship building skills. You will also need ample experience in administration as organisational skill is a key in this position.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore you will be asked to declare all convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings that are not ‘protected’. The successful candidate will be required to apply for and maintain an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate.
The post requires a full driving licence and the ability to provide a suitably insured vehicle.
