Role Description:

Deafblind UK have over 35 monthly social groups throughout the UK that give all of our deafblind members an opportunity to come together and take part in organised activities and social events.

We are looking for Group Volunteers to help with the organising of the monthly group activities.

The group takes place on the last Friday of each month at DBUK Head Office from 1pm - 4pm.

The members attending have a slight vision and hearing loss and they enjoy all coming together once a month to chat and doing creative activities.

We also organise games of bingo and a raffle each week with little prizes for the members to chose from.

There may be organised day trips out for the group to the theatre or to a garden centre..

The role of the Group Volunteers is to support the Group Co-ordinator and helping with setting up teas and coffees and clearing down at the end of the group with the Group Co-ordinator.

You will sit in with the members and assist them in taking part in the activities.

Some of the members use a wheelchair so you would need to be able to push them about - we offer full training.

Quality and Skills we are looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Volunteers
Good communication skills, particularly with regard to conversational skills
To be reliable and have a genuine interest to make a difference in lives of deafblind people
Patience and a warm and friendly attitude

What will we ask for in return?

A regular commitment of one weekly visit – usually 1-3 hours
We will need to undertake two references and a DBS check before this role can start
You will need to be over the age of 18 years to apply for this role
