We have an opportunity for an outstanding Teacher of Physics to join the Science Faculty at William Hulme’s Grammar School, Manchester’s most over-subscribed school and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1400 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds. The Academy has this year opened a brand new Sixth Form Centre which has marked the completion of a huge expansion project over the last two years, so this is a very exciting time to join the school.
Reporting to the Subject Leader, you will be responsible for teaching Science at Key Stages 3 and 4 and Physics at KS5. You will be an outstanding teacher, delivering consistently good and outstanding lessons, an excellent team player with the highest standards of professionalism and expectations of students. You will have up to date subject knowledge and a track record of success in maximising student progress at GCSE and A level.
As well as being an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about the teaching of Science you will also need to demonstrate a commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school. Across the school, a large range of activities (clubs, trips and visits) take place.
Science is a very successful and high achieving faculty at WHGS which boasts outstanding GCSE results. In recent years the Raiseonline/IDSR report has indicated the vast majority of science courses at KS4 are performing significantly above national standards. The uptake of science courses at A level is particularly strong. The latest Ofsted Report (April 2014) stated that “the progress that students make in the secondary phase of the academy is currently, and has been for at least three years, outstanding, particularly in English and in mathematics”. The faculty also has an excellent reputation for its success with the development and mentoring of trainee teachers.
