Job Description

Access Database Developer

£14.69 per hour PAYE

Contract position

England or Wales

Who will you be working for?

Our client, a non-ministerial government department, is on the lookout for a Microsoft Access Database Developer to join their team on an initial contract until March 2021. The role is based remotely but may require some travel on occasion.

What you will be doing?

You will create a database within Microsoft Access to capture data for the teams needs by exporting already captured data stored within Microsoft Excel. You will work closely with the Team to ensure the database is fit for purpose, in terms of storing the data so that the database can be used to extract information in a variety of formats (including automated and bespoke reports) for the team as well as internal and external customers.

For this you will need to analyse and refine Excel spreadsheets which hold sensitive information and also undertake open source research and other research using internal systems to support the project.

Once built you will need to provide coaching to other team members as to the structure of the database, how to maintain/interpret and add to the database, as well as to extract information in different formats. This will include setting up reports and creating user guides.

What can you bring to the role?

You must be highly proficient in Microsoft Access and MS Excel (including for Office 365) and capable of building an Access database from large Excel spreadsheets, with previous experience of doing this.

You will be a good communicator as this will entail taking the journey with the team not just building a database in the background. Discussing ideas and practicalities of what is needed and what is feasible, analysing databases and making recommendations as to how information can be recorded and presented to meet wider team needs.

Ideally you will have experience of open source research and of working with high standards of confidentiality when handling sensitive data and information, complying with GDPR and data protection requirements as appropriate.

Please note that you will be required to go through Baseline Security clearance if successful.
